| Greyhound racing has been part of English culture ever since the 1500’s when Queen Elizabeth initiated the first formal rules for greyhound coursing. On July 24th 1926 seven dogs raced to catch an electric hare that was being propelled around a purpose built track in front of a crowd of 1,700 spectators. This event marked the emergence of the modern day sport of greyhound racing. Today the sport is still as popular as ever and Wimbledon dog track is the premier race ground for the south west. With a lively and friendly crowed, restaurants, bars and track side tables as well as stands, "Love the Dogs" is a great night out. |
